The brain sees words, even nonsense ones, as pictures

In the moment you are seeing these words, your brain could see every single one of them as a picture.

Researchers were looking into the activity in one specific region of people’s brains before and after the volunteers had to learn some words that are completely made up. It was shown that after learning this nonsense words – the visual word form area that’s located on the left side of the brain near the back, is responding to them just like they are real words.

In the Journal of Neuroscience, in the 25th of March it was reported that this study is actually confirming one previous finding that says that this part of the brain is making pictures out of words. The researchers said that the new study could be very helpful for people who are having difficulties while reading.
